When costume designer Jennifer Bryan designed the Jedi robes and Assassin May's costume, she was inspired by real-world warriors and previous Star Wars costumes to usher in a new era of design for the series set in the High Republic. She drew inspiration from Theresa Big's prequel costumes and did up-close research in the archives at Skywalker Ranch. In The Believer, Brian combined elements from the real world and the Star Wars universe to create an entirely new design.

In the two episodes premiering on Disney+ on June 4, Brian shared with StarWars.com the design inspirations and details for several characters.

May (played by Amandla Stenberg) is the central assassin character in the show. Brian's team incorporated a patchwork of chainmail, bamboo and purple capes into her outfit for a style that was both vintage and functional. Mei's cloak is made of handmade cotton and gauze, dyed a uniform purple to symbolize her memory. The spliced design of the cloak reflects her image as a wandering warrior, and the belt hides four throwing knives, adding practical functionality.

Drawing inspiration from the warrior tribes of Asia Minor, East Africa, North Africa, and the Roman and Byzantine Empires, Brian combined samurai elements with bamboo strip designs to add a sense of history and practicality to Mei's clothing.

Master Indala

Master Indara (played by Carrie-Anne Moss) is the first Jedi Master the audience meets in the show, wearing a classic brown hooded robe that pays homage to Obi-Wan's costume in "Star Wars: A New Hope." Her ivory tunic pays homage to Princess Leia Organa's white robes, and the costume was designed with action and fighting in mind to accommodate aerial stunts.

Master Thor

Master Sol (played by Lee Jung Jae) wears white temple robes and teaches young apprentices. To reflect the heyday of the Jedi Order, Bryan layered the costume with new fabrics. The combination of ginger and mustard brings a new interpretation to the classic color scheme of the Jedi, making the character more visually layered.

Jackie Long

As Thor's apprentice, Jackie Long (Dafne Keen) wears a colorful belt beneath her belt to indicate her status as a student. This design first appeared in the Star Wars: The High Republic books and comics, with the green of the belt matching the color of her lightsaber, using wool felt fabric to provide structure.

Joad Vandal

Joad Fandral (Charlie Barnett), another important character in the Jedi Order, wears a costume inspired by the robes of Roman senators. Brian chose silk and wool fabrics for his garments, which exhibit delicate pleats and sheen, reflecting his sophistication and elegance.

On June 4, "The Believer" will premiere on Disney+. Look forward to meeting May, Master Indala, Master Thor, Jackie and Yoder.
